Founded in 1962 by missionary Rev. Paul Gebauer, Menda Baptist Church began in a humble school classroom with a vision to proclaim Christ in Cameroon.
Today, we’re a leading congregation in the Cameroon Baptist Convention, known for our commitment to biblical truth, intentional discipleship, and holistic mission.
Our journey reflects God’s faithfulness through seasons of growth, challenge, and renewal, as we continue to be a lighthouse for the Gospel in our community.
Menda Baptist Church (MBC) is a middle-sized congregation located at the third mile along the road from the central city of Bamenda to Bambui. The property, tucked away from the noisy main road and its activities, provides a serene atmosphere for worship, learning and other edifying activities. MBC was planted in 1962 and has grown gradually to the status of one of the leading mother churches of the Cameroon Baptist Convention, multiplying church plants in partnership with other churches.
Menda Baptist Church is driven by four cardinal key result areas: God centered worship, gospel driven benevolence, passionate evangelism and intentional discipleship. Our leadership is structured around our
key result areas. Our ministry is carried out in pursuit of the same key result areas and our business meetings are focused on the key result areas. Our benevolence to members of the church and the community around us is a way of adorning the gospel of Christ, thereby inviting those who have experienced “a scratch where it was itching in their lives” to want to know about God and possibly join in worshiping Him. We make our worship relevant to all kinds of people, seeking to be consumed by the beauty and greatness of God to the extent that onlookers would want to know this God. We pursue evangelism with urgency; with the passion to establish the
kingdom of God in the hearts of people and communities through church planting and revitalization.
Our Christian education provides for the intentional growth of all members of the church towards Christlikeness in holiness and competencies. Children, youth, women and men fellowships all serve intentionally to drive us to these ends. Our projects constitute a means to an end. We build to provide needed space, beauty, resources and the convenience necessary to accomplish our spiritual purposes. The past six decades which we can say were years of formation and preparation have landed us on a platform of mother churches of the Cameroon Baptist Convention. It has been a time of heavy investment in every facet of church life which holds promise for the years to come.
As we celebrate the help of the Lord through the decades, we are also recasting vision and looking forward to days of greater accomplishments to the glory of God and the celebration of His people. If the Lord Jesus, the hope of earth and joy of heaven, returns soon, we shall be found prayerfully labouring to spread his fame to the
nations.
